Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas Adds Five New Doctors

Cary, N.C. – December 6, 2006   The Veterinary Specialty Hospital of the Carolinas (VSH) recently hired five new veterinarians to provide surgical, emergency and critical care services at its Cary and new north Raleigh hospitals.

Dr. Cindy Eward joins the surgical team at VSH in its Cary location. Prior to coming to VSH, Eward served as a surgeon in private practice in Vermont. Previously, she was in surgical residency at Auburn University in Auburn, AL and filled an assistant professor position at the veterinary school. Eward is a graduate of Ontario Veterinary College in Guilph, Ontario where she also completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery.

Dr. Sharon Clare joins the emergency/critical care team at VSH’s north Raleigh hospital. Clare is a graduate of North Carolina State University’s Veterinary School in Raleigh, NC. In addition to a veterinary degree, Clare also holds a PhD in biochemistry from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. Clare worked in several research positions after obtaining her graduate degree but her interest in veterinary medicine led to technician positions at two veterinarian practices and then to veterinary school. Prior to coming to VSH, Clare honed her clinical skills with an internship at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH.

Dr. Dondrae Coble also joins the emergency/critical care team at VSH’s north Raleigh hospital. Prior to VSH, Coble trained in emergency patient management at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, FL. A native North Carolinian, Coble attended veterinary school at the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in Tuskegee, AL after attending North Carolina A& T State University in Greensboro, NC. While in school, Coble had externships in Maryland, Florida and Indiana.

Dr. Lauren Reid joins the emergency/critical care team at VSH’s north Raleigh location. A Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine, she returns to the Triangle where she received a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to VSH, Reid held a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Illinois in Chicago, IL, which included primary case management for internal medicine as well as emergency patients.

Dr. Mary Lewis also joins the emergency/critical care team at VSH’s Cary hospital. Prior to VSH, Lewis held an internship in emergency and critical care medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Lewis is a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, VA.

“VSH has grown at a healthy pace over the last several years. With the increase in number of patients as well as opening a new hospital in north Raleigh, we needed to add new doctors to ensure that we continue serving our clients with the best possible medical care,” said VSH co-founder Dr. Kevin Concannon. “Our new doctors bring a wealth of experience in research, leadership and teamwork that will benefit our staff and clients.”
