VSH Adds Cardiology Service
VSH is pleased to welcome cardiologist Dr. Mike Cocchiaro. He is originally from Connecticut and obtained his veterinary degree from Texas A&M University in 2006. He completed a one-year rotating internship at North Carolina State University and a three year cardiology residency at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Cocchiaro’s interests lie in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired heart disease and management of heart failure in dogs and cats.
Dr. Cocchiaro strongly believes in a team approach of working with pet owners and their primary care veterinarians to treat cardiac diseases.
Our cardiology service will see appointments at all three hospital locations—Cary (Monday and Thursday), Durham (Tuesday), and North Raleigh (Wednesday or Friday).
Because the evaluation of cardiac diseases involves the use of advanced diagnostic equipment and/or procedures, the following will be routinely available at all three VSH hospital locations:
- Color flow and spectral Doppler echocardiography (ultrasound)
- Electrocardiography (ECG)
- Blood pressure measurement (indirect)
- Ambulatory ECG monitoring (Holter monitor or event recorder)
- Pericardiocentesis (+/- cytology)
- Thoracocentesis and abdominocentesis (+/- cytology)
We are pleased to be able to provide this service to help improve the quality of life of the cardiac patients in North Carolina.
