VSH operates as a referral facility during the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm,  Monday through Friday. We understand that your pet is an important member of your family and our goal is to see all patients within 24 - 48 hours of a referral. When your pet needs to be seen quickly and the specialist you wish to see is unavailable, another specialist or an emergency doctor may perform the initial examination, admit your pet, and transfer the case to the appropriate specialist at the earliest opportunity. This team approach ensures that the diagnosis and treatment of your pet can progress quickly.

Before you make an appointment with one of our specialists, your regular veterinarian should contact us to discuss the reason for the referral and the results of any diagnostic procedures or tests. Our doctors believe it’s important to work closely with your pet’s veterinarian so that we’re fully informed. Your veterinarian will let us know whether we should call you, or you will call us to schedule the appointment.

If you do not have a primary care veterinarian, please contact our Office Manager, Stephanie Worley, (919)233-4911.

Once you've made an appointment, please fill out the admission form below for the hospital location you will be visiting and we'll prepare a patient record prior to your arrival.

VSH has veterinarians on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. At night, on weekends, and during holidays the emergency veterinarians on duty see walk-in emergencies and care for hospitalized patients. No appointment is necessary but we do appreciate a phone call, if possible, so that we might prepare for your arrival if you should need us.
